The unidentified pilot can be heard saying things like 'F*g weirdos, probably driving around in F*g Hyundais, F*g roads and st that go slow as fk.' He also mentions the lack of balls unless someone is 'f rolling coal man, g*ddamnit' and refers to the Bay Area as a 'f* this place, g*ddamn liberal f.'

The audio was flagged by Twitter user @LiveATC and has sparked widespread concern among travelers who have had to endure similar rants in the past. Judina Trade, who returned to the Bay Area on Thursday after traveling through SJC, told ABC7 News that she thinks it's a good thing that the aircraft did not hear the pilot's comments because she would be very scared if she were a passenger.

This isn't the first time a Southwest Airlines pilot has been caught making inappropriate comments. In 2011, a pilot was suspended for inadvertently broadcasting a profane rant about flight attendants over the radio frequency used by air traffic controllers.

The airline has released a statement saying that the situation is an isolated incident involving a single employee and not representative of the nearly 60,000 hardworking, respectful people of Southwest Airlines. The company says its corporate culture is built on treating others with concern and dignity, and the comments are inconsistent with professional behavior and overall respect.

The airline has handled the matter internally, but many are left wondering how such a situation could occur in the first place. Councilman Raul Peralez, whose district encompasses Downtown San Jose and the airport, called the comments disheartening, especially given everything that's been going on lately.
